It was 2019, and Paige Coffey loved her job at a retail store for women. She had attended Youngstown State University, in Youngstown, Ohio, with a major in Fashion Merchandising and enjoyed all things fashion and beauty.
Paige had been married and divorced, and in 2019, at age 27, she was dating once again.
Paige also had quite a large network of friends and family. She had recently lost her father and was exceptionally close with her mother, aunts, grandparents, and many cousins. This was a family that truly enjoyed being together.
In 2019, she had been staying with her grandparents in Bratenahl, Ohio- a close Cleveland suburb. She worked in Macedonia, Ohio, and usually had to get rides or take an Uber as she didn’t have a vehicle of her own.
On May 7, 2019, she was seen at Steelyard Commons Shopping plaza in Cleveland, with her boyfriend.
Paige was never seen or heard from again.
Where is Paige Coffey?
This story, about a young woman missing from Cleveland, Ohio, really makes you wonder how a person can vanish into thin air, with virtually little to no clues in three years.
Cleveland, Ohio is not a national park. It’s not a very remote area. It’s a pretty big city actually, although it’s seen its fair share of crime and mystery. (There are also many beautiful parts of the city as well!)
Paige Coffey was born December 8, 1991, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the first-born grandchild in the family and would go on to have several cousins with whom she would be extremely close. Paige graduated from Charles Brush High School in Cleveland and was an exceptional student. She went on to attend Youngstown State University after graduation in 2010.
Paige is described as a positive and happy young woman, and very artistic. She loved fashion- and in fact, would major in Fashion at YSU.
She also loved to change her hairstyle and her look, which she did frequently. Looking through many of her photos on social media, you can tell she is a beautiful girl, sometimes wearing her hair long and in braids, sometimes short and natural.
In 2012, Paige married Tushad Coffey, a young man she went to High School with. They would end up divorcing in late 2017.
We don’t know a whole lot about Paige’s life in the interim, but in 2019, she was dating a new man: A man by the name of Patrick Samar Mason Jr., who generally went by PJ to friends and family.
A quick criminal history shows that he had been arrested in 2011, and ultimately pled guilty to theft and burglary. In 2013, when he failed a drug test, he was also charged with probation violation.
Other than that, there isn’t much information on PJ.
On May 7, 2019, Paige was seen shopping at the Steelyard Commons shopping center in Cleveland.
Steelyard Commons sits on the site where the LTV Steel Finishing Plant once was. LTV closed this location in 2001, leaving over 130 acres of land abandoned and empty.
Steelyard Commons has quite an interesting history to it. After LTV moved out, the questions began about what to do with the space. When the idea of Steelyard Commons was proposed, it seemed like a wonderful idea. It would give purpose and new life to an abandoned area and would create over 1800 jobs- not to mention millions in annual tax revenue for the city.
The site, however, needed a multi-million dollar clean-up to comply with EPA regulations. And so the long process of building Steelyard Commons began. It would officially open in 2007, with stores like Home Depot, Burlington Coat Factory, Target, and many more. There would also be a bunch of fast-food restaurants — Taco Bell, Steak and Shake, and Burger King. You could also find an IHOP and Applebee’s there. Many businesses were opening up, and everyone it seemed wanted to be a part of the development there.
It was a pretty big hit with the city in the beginning, and everyone talked about it.
But things would begin to change.
It became a place where people told you to lock your doors and not go alone. There were many crimes of theft reported and even a few assaults.
In October 2017, Steelyard Commons saw its first fatal shooting.
December 4, 2020, U.S. Marshals chased a fugitive from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and then to Steelyard Commons back in Ohio- where the standoff ended in law enforcement opening fire on the suspect in the parking lot- in broad daylight.
On July 4, 2021, another shooting took place in the parking lot.
Now all places have their problems. Steelyard Commons was still a large shopping area, maybe just not as popular as it once was.
We know this for sure: On May 7, 2019, Paige and PJ were shopping at Steelyard Commons.
From there, we know that Paige’s family tried for days to reach her, and couldn’t. Paige is 27, and as an adult, it might not immediately raise red flags. Certainly, she can come and go as she pleases.
But when her family learns she hadn’t even been showing up for work, and they realize no one has spoken to her in days, she is officially reported missing on May 17, ten full days after she was last seen.
Interestingly, in some reports, PJ is mentioned as a person of interest. However, it seems there are little to no clues pointing them to where Paige may be.
What’s also interesting, is in one of the interviews, her family states there may have been a recent change to her mental health that has them worried.
That adds another layer to this case.
The family says there is no way she would go this long without contacting her family. So where is she?
Paige is described as a black woman, 27 years old when she disappeared and would be 30 years old today. She stands 5’8” tall and weighs around 230 pounds.
Paige could have changed her hair- but it may be worn in braids, all-natural or short. She has brown hair and brown eyes, and her ears are pierced. She also has a mole on her forehead.
